Food security can be interpreted as the state of having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. Since a long time, tuber has been known as a food ingredient by the people in Indonesia including in Bangka Belitung province. The diversity of tubers at each of the region is different, therefore research on the diversity of tuber was conducted at several areas of this province. The research was executed based on an exploratory survey, interview with local community and market survey. The results showed the tubers of cassava (Manihot esculenta), sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas), arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea), yam (Dioscorea esculenta), yam (Tacca leontopetaloides), taro pikul (Xanthosoma nigrum) are used as food. The tuber of taro (Colocasia esculenta) has several local names such as keladi nyatoh and keladi rakit. It is also known as vegetable ‘lempah keladi' in Babel province, which is made from the stalk of taro. Rice ‘Aruk', an alternative food, is made from cassava.
