Abstract

Nurhasanah, Sunaryo W. 2015. Genetic diversity of East Kalimantan Local Rice. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 1: 1553- 1558. Genetic diversity is a base genetic material which is very important in assembling new superior varieties. This Study aimed to elevate local potency of East Kalimantan, local rice genetic diversity, which has not been optimally used in rice breeding program. The exploration results conducted in West Kutai District, East Kalimantan Province, showed a high local rice genetic diversity. As many as 44 cultivars were collected, consisted of 39 rice and 5 glutinous rice cultivars. About 80% of them were upland rice cultivars. There were 2 brown grain rice cultivars, which are potentially developed as functional food having useful active substance for human health. Through exploration and conservation, as well as identification of their genetic potency, the local rice genetic diversity can be optimally exploited in rice breeding program to assemble new superior rice varieties with high productivity and good quality as well as tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses.
