Abstract

Mirza IN, Irwanto RR. 2015. Reforestation evaluation of the Gunung Masigit Kareumbi Game Reserve, Sumedang. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 1: 1615-1621. Reforestation is one of the methods to restore the vegetation damage in the ex-land forest area. Reforestation has been carried out in the Taman Buru Masigit Kareumbi (TBMK), Sumedang, West Java, well known as the Tree Adoption Program TBMK.The development of this program for six years showed the success of planting approximately 150 thousand trees, but on the other hand, the failure of reforestation planting in the region reached 29%.The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors causing the failure of the planting of seedlings by analyzing tree growth adopted by life stage (seedlings, saplings, poles, and trees); determine the tree species most widely adopted and to determine the most influential abiotic factors that affect tree growth. The research was carried out on trees aged one to five years after planting.Plant sampling was done in a square of 10 x 10 meters with a series of plot placed randomly. At each age of plot, the number of individuals was calculated and grouped as seedlings, saplings, poles and trees based on DBH (diameter at breast height) at 1.3-1.5 m from ground level. The abiotic factors measured are humidity, temperature, light intensity, soil pH, soil temperature and soil moisture while soil analysis was done to determine the concentration of C, N, C/N ratio, the proportion of soil particles and water content. The abiotic factors were analyzed using Principal Component Analysis and Stepwise Regression. The results showed a decrease in the number of individuals with age of planting, with trees growing stage reached the stage of adoption of the new majority stake. Tree species most widely adopted is puspa (Schima walichii) and suren (Toona sureni). The factor suspected cause of the lack of success factors was is adapted tree planting at the early age of planting, while the most influential factor in the growth of trees is carbon levels in the soil
