Abstract

Njurumana GN. 2015. Social ecology of pilang (Acacia leucophloea) on Timor Tengah Selatan District, East Nusa Tenggara. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 1: 1639-1643. Research on social-ecology of Pilang (Acacia leucophloea) (Roxb.) Willd. aimed to understand the ecology distribution and its utilization by the community on Timor island. Research conducted on 16 villages in Timor Tengah Selatan District, East Nusa Tenggara. The survey, interview, and field observation are used, and qualitative and descriptive for data analysis. The result of the research shows the ecology distribution of Pilang is dominant at elevation 250-750 m asl., especially on kambisol soil. The utilization of Pilang as a social-culture attribute for traditional medicine, timber wood, fuel wood and fence material. It is concluded that the feasibility of Pilang to develop in wider scale based on ecology and social aspect.
